DESCRIPTION

The Fallas’ city is a Spanish district that was born in the middle of the last century with the intention of hosting the artists who create the masterpieces that are exhibited every year in Valencia’s streets. In recent years the population density of the neighborhood has been reduced by more than 20 percent due to the disrepair of its buildings and infrastructure.

Despite being well connected to the city, having enough equipment and vast vegetation, the neighborhood has several drawbacks: it is segmented by its uses, location in the suburb, feeling of insecurity, no flexibility in the types of housing, little people traffic, vacant lots, visual and functional physical barriers, premises and streets used as parking lots, disrepair and little maintenance of the local infrastructure

As a possible solution to these problems, it is proposed to spatially and functionally integrate the neighborhood and incorporate it into the urban fabric of the city. It can be done by eliminating the perimeter walls of the park, creating a cycle-way that crosses the neighborhood longitudinally, improving accessibility from several points, conceiving parking at specific places and urban gardens in empty lots, freeing some buildings’ ground floors, mixing the uses, including the citizen participation, rehabilitating the old infrastructures and renewing the facades.
